General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.
by James R Jenkins » Sat Jun 27, 2015 11:28 am
The Fund Manger web page cannot be accessed from within Fund Manage using help/Fund Manger on the web/Fund Manager Home Page link. The OS I am using is the windows 7 Home Premium edition. This error is only a recent occurrence. When the URL, https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com, is entered manually into widows' file explorer or the search programs and files window, then the web site pops up in Firefox correctly. An error is indicated in a popup window from within Fund manager. The error is "Other ShellExeccute error 5". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, James Jenkins

Hi James R Jenkins, Fund Manager uses the Windows shell to open the URL. If you go into the "Start" menu of Windows and click "Run..." and type in the URL: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.comand click "OK", what happens? It should open up that URL in your default browser.

Actually, I went to the Windows 7 start and typed into the "Search programs and fles" space the URL.
Thanks, James Jenkins

Can you try it in the "Run..." dialog instead? Also, can you verify the "HTTPS" protocol is set to your browser under "Control Panel / Default Programs"?

The HTTPS protocol association is for the default program, Firefox. Regards, James Jenkins

Hi James,
The error code 5 indicates SE_ERR_ACCESSDENIED, which is a permission problem. Some ideas...
1) Are you maybe running some antivirus or protection software that may be interfering, and preventing Fund Manager's request?
2) If you temporarily start Fund Manager as an admin, does that make a difference here? To do this, right mouse click on the Fund Manager shortcut, and choose "Run as Admin...".
3) What if you change your default browser to Internet Explorer temporarily, does that allow it to start working?

As I came back to update you, I saw your note on looking at protection software which is what I ws ddoing. I am using Comodo firewall and had previousl;y disabled it and still had the same problem . I just discovered it is the Comdo protection suite (not just the firwall0 that is giving the problem. It has Heuristic settings (HIPS) that include "detect ShellCode injections". I disabled the HIPS completely for the time being until I have time to see if I can include a exclusion or not. Fundmanager is now working and I can now retrive data. It appears that Comdo updated its software recently and what was working with the FM.exe is now not working with it unless the HIPS is disabled.
thanks, James Jenkins
