Subdivide sectors?

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby silvan » Sun May 03, 2015 12:10 pm

Hi Mark,

I would like to subdivide the sectors, so I can see the main sectors I invest in (e.g. 10% Financial, 20% Technology, 30% Industrial Goods etc.) and more details on my request (e.g. 50% of the Financials are REITS and 50% are Regional Banks etc.).

Is there any way to create this?

Thanks, Silvan

Hi Silvan,

You can divide the sectors up as much as you want by editing the names. If you want to retrieve from Morningstar, you have to leave the default names in place though. As far as assigning investments to sectors, you can divide these up into percentages of multiple sectors. The assignments just have to total 100%, but you can have 10% in one sector, 20% in another, etc...
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks, but can I generate two different reports? One with the main categories (e.g. #8) and one with all the subdivided sectors (e.g. #60)?

Or will they all appear in the same report? Then I would not be able to see the main sector allocation with the percentages I think.

Hi Silvan,

You can name the sectors anything you want, and assign your investments to any combination of sectors you want, but they must total 100%. You can't for example put 100% in sector #8 and also 100% in sector #60 if that is what you're asking.

There are 3 sets of categories you can use for whatever you want: Asset Type, Investment Goal, and Sector. If you're using one category for one purpose, you can't also use that same category for a different purpose at the same time. You could however utilize one of the other 2 sets of categories.
Thanks,
Mark
