Can I make FM faster? And upgrade question

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Is there any way to speed up Fund Manager? I trade a lot of stock options and have made hundreds and hundreds of trades in my portfolio over the last few years. I've been using Fund Manager during this time and I think all the information FM has to take account of each time it's starting and creating reports is beginning to put a strain on the software.

Is there any way to archive the data, or should I just not worry about it?

I'm currently running version 12 and I'm about to upgrade to the latest version so I was just trying to clean up the software before the upgrade so everything should run smooth. Because of the limited amount of ways to categorize investments (investment type, investment goal, asset type, etc.) I've been having to run two versions of the software and update each separately (for example: using Investment Type for one thing in one version, and something different in the other). My understanding is that the newer versions enable more categorizing on this level, so that's the main reason I'm upgrading.

So if you have any advice on that front, that would be appreciated as well. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to combine the two... I guess I'll just have to do away with one version's info. Thanks, James Hall

Hi James,

I suspect the issue may be related to leaving multiple report windows open. The software can handle a very large number of transactions without slowing down, but if you leave many report windows open, each time you make a change, all those report windows are re-calculated. Look under the top level "Windows" menu, and you can see all your open reports. You can use "Windows / Close all Reports" and "Windows / Close all Graphs", and that may solve this issue.

Each time you go to the top level "Reports" menu you are creating a new report window. Instead, if you already have a report window open, you can switch to that under the "Windows" menu. If desired, you can modify the settings in that window, rather than creating a new report window. To modify an existing report, use "Edit / Report Settings...".
