currency settings

In the currency settings, the default is the divide the foreign amount by the exchange rate to get the native currency amount. eg.
1. if my base currency is USD, my CAD investments will be divided by the rates in the yahoo symbol USDCAD=X.
2. if my base currency is CAD, my USD investments should be multiplied by USDCAD=X. however, they are still divided by USDCAD=X as there is no option to specify that.
3. I tried to use the symbol CADUSD=X, but the system failed to retrieve historical prices from yahoo.
Am I missing something?

Hi mli2001,

Yahoo doesn't have historical quotes on any exchange rates. You can get them from Bloomberg or OANDA though. We have instructions here:

Please note, the symbol for exchange rates on Bloomberg is not the same as Yahoo, so if you want to retrieve from Bloomberg, you must change the symbol to the Bloomberg symbol.

You can get the exchange rates either way USDCAD=X or CADUSD=X, depending on which way you want to convert. In the Currency Settings dialog in Fund Manager you must specify how many of that line's currency is equal to 1 of your default currency. So, some examples:

Default CAD: Assign the CADUSD=X investment as your exchange rate investment for the non-default USD currency. As of right now, this is about 0.9. So, that would mean 0.9 USD equals 1 CAD.

Default USD: Assign the USDCAD=X investment as your exchange rate investment for the non-default CAD currency. As of right now, this is about 1.1. So, that would mean 1.1 CAD equals 1 USD.
