Some Questions about v. 9.

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi!

I'm now running v. 7.8, and I seem to remember that I have a license for v. 8 which you sent me for free for some reason; I think that I may have bought v. 7 just before v. 8 was released, but I'm not sure.

I didn't like v. 8 mainly because I found that the order of securities in the data stack was less flexible than in v. 7.

Before trying the beta, I'd like to know:

1. How I run the beta without damaging my v. 7 files?
2. Is the stack order now more easily controlled than in v. 8?
3. Do the transfer functions, or the Spinoff wizard, or something make handling mergers, etc., easier? You know that preserving the cost basis on mergers and spinoffs is usually a pain.

Thanks.
D.

Hi David,

1) Make a copy of all your data files (*.mm4 and *.dat). Operate the beta on this copy, leaving your original data files for your current version. When you start up 9.0, and it tries to open your portfolio file from your current location, just say "No to All" when it asks you if you want to convert to the new file format. After this is done, use "File / Open Portfolio..." and go open your portfolio (and thus investments) from the new copy you just made.

2) Sorry, all of the dialogs still list in alphabetical order, like 8.x. There is no option to list by stack order in places like the Data Register, like it did in 7.x.

3) Yes, the new transfer/spin-off options make these easier (and more accurate). The ability to transfer shares on a date, while maintaining the original cost basis gives much more flexibility.
Thanks,
Mark

What are the limitations in the beta?
A maximum number of uses?

Last time my copy was disabled before the final version was released.

Thanks, Joe

Hi Joe,

There are no functional limitations. The beta version can be started up to 100 times, and expires on August 31st. There will be a release before then.
Thanks,
Mark

Will there be a discount for upgrades, as there always has been?

Thanks.
