Mark - may have a database issue here. For SIAL (Sigma-Aldrich), the 20w Moving Avg is displayed as 222,439,793.41 in the Portfolio Editor window.

Hi gmsimon,

Did you check in the Data Register under the "Prices" data type to see if you have any wrong prices recorded somehow?
Thanks,
Mark

That was the problem - thanks. Somehow an abnormally huge 1970 price was in the Data Register.

I had the same problem beginning this afternoon for several investments. When checking the prices for each investment, I found closing price of 505,528,928 and a date of 01/01/70. I have only done daily price retrievals for today. I did not do any historical retrievals today. I am using Yahoo (U.S.).
Thanks,
Ernest

Hi Ernest,

Can you give me a sample ticker symbol where you saw this problem? I'll see if I can reproduce it here.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

I have deleted all the bad entries. If it happens again, I will give you the ticker symbols.

I have a guess as to what might have happened. I had two portfolios open at the same time. I had them both set to retrieve prices every ten minutes. I'm guessing there may have been a conflict with the retrievals.
Thanks,
Ernest

Hi Ernest,

There were a few reports of this yesterday. I wasn't ever able to reproduce it though. Maybe it was a temporary problem with the quote server, I'm not sure... If it does happen again, please let me know.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Ernest,

Instead of a report, please tell me the following:

Ticker symbol
Quote server
Quote server module #
Date of bad price
Thanks,
Mark

Mark: problem is back & proliferating rapidly - some symbols HD, RA, FAST, ESRX, FTEK, & many others...(use Yahoo for quote server). Bad dates always seem to be 01/01/1970.

I have several, at least ten investments with the problem. I will give you just one.

Symbol: DTN
Quote Server: Yahoo
Quote Server Module Number: 423
Date of bad price: 01/01/70
Thanks,
Ernest

Hi Ernest and gmsimon,

Thanks for the information. I tried retrieving both DTN and HD from Yahoo just now. I was not able to reproduce the problem for some reason. Is this consistent for you? If you delete the bad price, and re-retrieve, does it come right back? If so, after a bad retrieve, please browse to the directory:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Fund Manager

and open up the file "prices.csv". This file contains the imported pricing data. Does it look okay? If not, please email me both the prices.csv and intlog2.txt files. I will send each of you an email, so you can reply to that with these attachments.

If you only retrieve one quote at a time, by right mouse clicking on it, and choosing "Retrieve Selected Price", does that still show the problem?
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Sorry, I was away for a little while.

When I do manual retrieves, I don't get the problem. The problem appears when automatice retrieve is set. I have my frequency set to 10 minutes. After a hour or two when you check your portfolios, you notice there has been a problem.

I have a custom report that contains all the Moving Average fields. When one of those show a very large number, that alerts you to know there is a bad price. By the way, for a given investment, not all Moving Averages are bad when the problem occurs.
Thanks,
Ernest

Hi Ernest,

Thanks for the information. It sounds like the problem is intermittent. There really should be no difference between a retrieve manually initiated and one that happens automatically. If you're able to see the problem happen, please try to copy those files: (prices.csv and intlog2.txt), and send them to us by e-mail. We'll keep looking into it here as well, to see if we can reproduce it.
Thanks,
Mark
