Printing - cannot find default printer

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby Maury56 » Sun Jul 10, 2011 3:14 pm

Mark,
FM sends me: "Cannot find default printer" when I try and print.
But I check my printer and it is on-line and listed as the default printer.
So I switch to another program and quickly printed out 1 page with no problem.
I closed down FM and reopened it to see if that might help but still got the same result when I tried to print.
I went to the printer (HP) website but it said my software was up-to-date
I have a MAC and am using CrossOver to run FM.

How can I get FM to find the default printer?

Maury56

PS: Followed your advice on how to set up accounts and subs.
Worked like a charm and dowloaded without a hitch.
I am a Happy Camper! Well, almost.

Hi Maury56,

I'm not sure, I suspect this has to do with CrossOver somehow. We do not test or officially support running on a Mac, but many people do it. When you say you checked that you had your printer set to the default, was this within the Crossover (Windows) environment? Can you print from another application running in the Crossover environment?
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
Still not working.
I was able to print from a different program running in CrossOver.
I did run repair FM which reinstalled the program.
Still got the "Cannot find default printer".
What if you were an an office with several idfferent printers?
Is there some special way to actually select/set the printer to be used?
I ahve hit the wall on this one. Cannot think of anything else to do.
And certainly don't want to buy a $300 program that won't print.

Hi Maury,

I can understand printing is a requirement. Are you trying to print a graph or a report? When you select "File / Print Report..." a dialog comes up with a drop-down selection of all your printers, so you can choose the one you want to print to. By default, it selects your "default" printer in this list until you change it to something else.

If you do a "File / Page Setup..." do you get an error message too?
Thanks,
Mark

Yes, all three Print Preview/setup/report give me the same error code about cannot find the default printer. They do not list the printers (there is only one). I am trying to print a report. Tried a graph and that does not work either.

Hi Maury,

Why don't you give me a call, and I'll connect into your computer, and see if I can't figure out a solution. The number here is 480-705-0129.
Thanks,
Mark
