Cash Account - 3 Problems

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby johnreid » Sat Nov 06, 2010 9:13 am

I have decided to activate my cash account. In doing so, I want to go back to at least the beginning of this year. I have run into three problems.
1. There seems to be no way of getting buys of stock in and out of the cash account unless they are re-input from scratch. This wipes out all the information that one has acquired about the stock - prices, volumn etc. Is there a way to do this with less pain and to maintain the stock information? I tried to edit them in the Data Manager and the FM system did ask if I wanted to use the Cash Account. I said yes, pressed the enter key, checked the cash account and found no record.
2. When I went back to input dividends to the Cash Account, the value for the price, instead of being $1, came up as $1.60. What causes this error? I am using the Dividend Icon on the task bar to do this.
3. I have transfers between US$ and CAN$ accounts. I have not been able to find out how to make these transfers through the FM system. Of course, I can do them manually, but I feel there must be a way to do them using FM.

Thanks.

Hi johnreid,

1) For FM to automatically debit/credit your cash, the default cash account must be assigned at the time of date entry or import. If you want to make adjustments only to cash you can just record each of the buy/sell cash transactions, and not edit the stock entries at all.

2) You probably have a cash price recorded at $1.60. Look in the Data Register with the "Prices" data type, and make sure all your prices are $1. Delete/edit any that are not. Also, make sure the properties of your cash account are set to not retrieve pricing. See "Investment Properties... / Internet Retrieve", and turn off "Retrieve Price".

3) If one of them is your default cash account, record the buy/sell in the other one, and you will automatically get a sell/buy in the default cash account. The exchange rate at the time you record this entry will be used for determining how much money is bought/sold in/out of the default cash account.
Thanks,
Mark
