Starting from Scratch with the Advisor Edition

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby paulk » Fri Oct 29, 2010 6:17 pm

I am currently evaluating the software with the intension of possibly purchasing the Advisor version to replace my current portfolio management system which I use for approximately 2 dozen clients. I am trying to figure out the easiest way to record historical information into FM. My current software does not offer any export options and my custodian (TD Ameritrade) does not have my historical information available on the advisor section of the site.

I really don't want to just start with my historical cost basis as I will loss all my past performance figures but I can't seem to think of any other way to get started.

Any suggestions?

Hi paulk,

If your current portfolio management package doesn't export this makes it difficult. You might try contacting TD and asking them if they would be able to generate the transaction files prior to the date you had them initiate the file generation. Maybe they can do this for a fee, I'm not sure, but it would be worth asking.

Another option would include maybe using the retail OFX server to retrieve as much historical data as you can for your clients. This is done on a per-account basis, and would require you having your clients login information.
Thanks,
Mark
