Evaluating Software -- Enter cash into portfolio????

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby cw89134 » Sun Jan 20, 2008 12:56 pm

We are evaluating this program and have set up a portfolio with data to be downloaded from Smith Barney. All the stocks are being retrieved properly. However, we are unable to figure out how to enter a cash balance, either manually or via download, into the portfolio.

What are we missing? :?: :?: TIA.

Hello cw89134,

You can manually create a cash account by using "File / New Investment...". Assign this cash investment to be your default cash account by right mouse clicking on a sub-portfolio and choosing "Properties...". Once you have assigned a default cash account, all transactions in that sub-portfolio will automatically have their proceeds added to, or withdrawn from, this cash account.

When first retrieving a new account, you will also be given the opportunity to specify your default cash account preference. In this case, Fund Manager can automatically create and assign your default cash account for you. Once you have established an account, you can still manually create and assign a default cash account using the instructions described above.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the reply to my original post.

We would also like to have the ability to do asset allocations by industry sector and size (large cap, small cap etc.). Is there an automatic way of doing this for both stocks and mutual funds - i.e. a way other than manually assigning codes to each investment via the user defined fields?

Thanks.

Hi cw89134,

Sorry, there is no automated method of assigning your investments to categories. You can either do it manually in the Investment Properties, or you can import this information from a CSV file using "File / Import / Other".
Thanks,
Mark
