General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Mark, I'm having a problem with Fund Manager and I'm hoping you can help. Here's a little background and (what I think is) the problem:
1. I'm converting to Fund Manager from Quicken.
2. I'm exporting a QIF file from Quicken that contains all transactions for a given account. Quicken does not allow me to select open vs. closed securities -- ALL transactions for ALL securities (open and closed) for a given account get exported from Quicken.
3. I'm hitting the 500 investment limit because of the closed securities. The total number of open securities in Quicken is < 300. Early in the conversion process, this wasn't an issue because the open and closed securities numbered less than 500. But as I convert more accounts, the import process aborts midway.
4. Keep in mind that as soon as the import is complete, I close sold securities (in Portfolio Editor I sort by shares, then do a mass delete of those with zero shares). Exceeding the 500 limit is temporary until the securities with zero shares gets deleted, but I don't know how to get around this.
5. I'd appreciate any guidance you have to work around this.
Thanks.

Hi aviator,
You could download the Professional version, do the import, and closing of investments, and then downgrade to the Personal version.

Thanks, Mark. I did as you suggested and the imports are working well. I presume that going back to the personal version after using the professional version won't be a problem.

Hi aviator,
Going back should not be a problem. Just make sure your portfolio has less than 500 investments, and then reinstall the Personal version right over your Professional copy. Do not uninstall.

Mark, I'm in the midst of converting a lot of data to Fund Manager. So I downloaded and installed the professional version to get passed the 500 investment limitation, but now I've got a new problem: When I launch Fund Manager (the professional version), I get a message saying that "The evaluation period of Fund Manager has expired. If you plan to continue using the program, please purchase a license."
It's highly unlikely I've used the 60 or so "opens" of Fund Manager since I downloaded the personal version. Even more unlikely I've gone through that many opens of the professional version.
But when I click on the box with the message above, I get another box asking if I'd like "to view 'Purchase Information' in the online help." If I click No, it takes me to into Fund Manager, professional version.
My questions are:
1. Should I be worried? I've invested a lot of time importing data, and I obviously don't want to lose any of my work, but I've haven't yet had an opportunity to properly evaluate the personal vs. professional versions. Seems that this message has appeared way too early.
2. Can I make this message go away? Given the number of investments currently in Fund Manager (500+), I'm worried that I'll be forced to buy the professional version or be locked out forever. The number of investments will go down to below 500 after I've done a proper cleanup, but I'm now I'm getting worried...
Thanks for your help.

Hi aviator,
The trial period is limited to 60 starts. After about 45 you will start getting the notice the trial is over, but you can keep getting into it until 60. It sounds like you are between 45 and 60 during the trial. The trial period is common among all versions, so any Personal starts add with any Professional starts. (They are not independent starts.) I would suggest minimizing the number of times you exit and re-start if you are worried about not having enough evaluation time. If necessary we can also extend your trial period. You will not lose any data. Any data entered during the trial period will still be available once you have a license copy.

Thanks, Mark. I'm travelling for the next three days so I won't get a chance to more work on the conversion. If I need your help to extend the trial period I'll reah out to you later in the week.
BTW, the little that I've seen of your software is impressive. The response times alone are infinitely faster than what I was getting from Quicken. And your responsiveness to questions on this board is a refreshing departure from Intuits nonexistant help.

Mark, could you please extend my trial period by a week. That should give me enough time to clean up my imported data and get the investments down to a manageable level.
Thanks.

Done. I've completed the form and it was submitted a few minutes ago.
Thanks.

Thanks, Mark.
FYI, I finished the import and cleanup process today. I used the professional version because of its higher investment limit, but I bought the personal version today.
I installed it over the professional version and, as you said, everything was fine. Didn't lose any of the work I'd done.
When a backup completes, I get a message showing how many investments were backed up. Is that the number used by Fund Manager to determine the limit, or should I be looking somewhere else? My reason for asking is that I decided to track my father-in-laws accounts in Fund Manager. His accounts have put me close to the 500 limit and I'd like to monitor this before I exceed 500.

Hi aviator,
The easiest way to find your total # of investments is to right mouse click on your topmost sub-portfolio (by default it is called "Master Portfolio") and choose "Properties...". The statistics there will show you the total number of investments contained in that sub-portfolio.
