About "transfer between"

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby Djobydjoba » Tue Mar 09, 2010 9:48 am

I'm testing this software, which seems really good. Here's a very basic question from a newbie :
If I want to sell the shares of an investment (fund A) , to buy shares of another fund B (same or different sub-portfolio), is it a transfer in Fund Manager terminology ?

I.E. should I use the "transfer between..." action ? Or should I sell to feed a cash investment, and buy from it ? What's the best practice ?

I've tried with "transfer between" but haven't succeeded : the share price for fund B at transfer date cannot be added ?

Thanks.

Hi Djobydjoba,

Generally, that would be a sell of Fund A, and a buy of Fund B. You would only use the "Transfer Between" wizard, when you are moving shares without realizing any gains/loss. For example, if you move shares from one account to a different account, without actually selling them.
Thanks,
Mark
