Must "Run" Fund Manager as Administrator

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby Septaj » Tue Aug 16, 2011 9:59 am

Sorry I know this has been addressed but I do not understand your answers and what to do about this problem ...

Recently transferred Fund Manager to a new computer. Windows Vista.

Everything fine except there is some problem when trying to use FM as a regular user. The portfolios do not open or are not there. Everything fine when running FM as Admin.

I suppose I could try restoring Admin backups to the reg user account FM. Or opening the .mm4 files from reg user. But I really don't want to have two separately-operating FMs on the computer. Have not had this problem before with FM - on several computers.

Thx.

Hi Septaj,

Where are all your data files stored? This is usually the biggest problem. As of Vista you can no longer store your data files anywhere under the "Program Files" folder. The best place to store your data files is in:

My Documents \ Fund Manager

If your files are in the "Program Files" path, copy them to the above path, and then open them from there. You do want to make it so you can run Fund Manager as a regular user. You shouldn't have to run as an admin.
Thanks,
Mark

The investments are in: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Fund Manager\Investments\.

I also don't want them in the Public folder. Not sure how they got there.

Hi Septaj,

Yes, I would suggest moving them into the "My Documents \ Fund Manager" folder, which would have a path of:

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Fund Manager
Thanks,
Mark

But that doesn't seem to address the problem of having to run as Admin ...

Hi Septaj,

If you open your data files from this location, and run as non-admin, is there something not working?
Thanks,
Mark

Well, dang.

After much confusion I have been able to open the portfolios in the reg user Vista account.

I don't know why FM in the reg account seems to be distinct from FM in the Admin account. But maybe I don't need to know.

If it all works out you won't hear from me further.

Thx
Septaj
