copy a portfolio and simulate different xactions

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

I've been tracking a portfolio which starts in 1998 and would like to make a copy of it and make a few changes, such as ... what if a 8% cash withdrawl was taken once a year. The portfolio is rebalanced once each year and wondered if there's a way of doing this instead starting from ground zero, recreating each transaction.

Thank you.

Hi Dennis,

If all of your portfolio and investment files are located in a single directory, the easiest thing to do is make a copy of that folder. I'd also suggest renaming the portfolio file (*.mm4) inside, so you can more easily keep track of which portfolio you have open. Portfolio files remember which investments they contain, and they store this information in a manner that is relative to the location of the portfolio file itself. This means, if you copy a portfolio file, and all its investments to a new folder, and then open that new portfolio file, it will open the investment files from the new folder, and not the old one. It is best to double check this after opening the new portfolio file, to make sure you are not editing your original investments. Use the "Location" field in the Portfolio Editor window, or create a Custom report with "Path and filename".
Thanks,
Mark
