New Computer Old Fund Manager

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby 2whiteroses » Wed Feb 24, 2010 12:43 pm

Hi, Mark -
I use Fund Manager Personal for record keeping but do not utilize much of it's sophisticated capabilities. Therefore, I have never upgraded beyond Version 7.8 nor do I wish to now. However, I have purchased a new computer and would like to be able to install a 7.8 version on the new Win 7 machine. Not having saved the original .exe install file, can I do this without cost and, if so, how? Thanks

Hi 2whiteroses,

You can download older versions still from our Revision History page here:

http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/modlist.html

Please keep in mind that the 7.x versions are not Windows 7 compatible, and are not supported by us on that version of Windows. The only Windows 7 compatible versions of Fund Manager are 10.x or later.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks, Mark -
When you say it is not compatible with Win 7 are you saying you know it does not work in Win 7 or are that you do not offer support if installed on Win 7?

Hi 2whiteroses,

It has never been tested on Windows 7 by us. There are a few known issues that will arise in using it on Windows 7. Most of them relate to the fact that the 7.x versions are not manifested properly for Windows 7 (or Vista for that matter), and the new "User Account Control" feature in Windows Vista/7. Odd things can happen, like your data files getting virtualized, etc. You're welcome to try it, and determine for yourself. We do not support for the 7.x versions on Vista or Windows 7.
Thanks,
Mark

Looks like I M in stone ages with FM.
However my problem is that I get involved with the various dates and options to
customize my report, and before I know it I am overwhelmed with info I dont need.
SO
Do you/ Is there a scenario for us simple minded folks, that want basics and not open another brokerage firm? Say simply list the funds/stocks, initial investment, later investments, with gain between said newer investment amounts shown between them? Or on a percenetage basis?
OR
Compare A oatmeal vs B oatmeal stocks similarly
and give me a 'factor of performance" ???
OR
How/where can I get and then factor in such criteria ALREADY MADE for us, such as 1 2 3 or 4 alarm stock, and or brokerage recommendations for buy or sell in numbers we can enter in a column in FM???
YEAH
I DONT WANNA MAKE A MS WORKS SPREADSHEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What he said was, for several years I have needed the above factorable criteria to assist in decisions.... Even in the wonderful Appleworks many years ago I could do this.....

HELP ???

COloR Me LoYAL buT leFT Out due To mY NEEd for DaTa oTHER than tHe 'standard' STUFF yeah STUFF from the # krunCHers.

Capeesh?

Hi Lars,

There are a variety of reports built into Fund Manager that you can use for this. You don't have to use any more features than you want. I'd suggest trying it out, and seeing if you run into any specific questions/problems.
Thanks,
Mark

Right Mark
Having used FM for YEARS I realize that.
The problem is I cannot enter data from other sources that can be valid in
decisions I attempt to make.
As I said, customizing is NOT the answer.
AND AND AND I do NOT own the referenced program you mentioned....
I dont need ANOTHER program or ANOTHER bunch of pages to transfer to
and dink around with--- i.e, like in filing my long form 1040 sans Quicken or TTax.

Where is your system that will give SPTN a factored rating that includes a multiplier for a two alarm warning? Or to grab data from one of dozens of sources for such as Anallyst rating for buy sell hold, which I could apply a factor of say .5 .8 1.1 etc for ratings, rather than just HEY LARS YOU JUST LOOK AT YER TOTAL AND YOU GOT ALL THE NUMBERS U NEED.....

IF that were the case all we ALL would need is crunch with the standard FM and become 'rich'. Beileve U miss the point of FLEXIBILITY for your program to (simply) have a trailer for reports say, that would allow some of this varied input. NO other program needed copy and mangle with.

Actually thinking last night I said "HEY maybe FM PRO would be the item, but apparently its simply more standard formulae..... (since U didnt suggest it in your reply and its apparently for those more heavily into statistics and crunching...)

Wishing and waiting.... Mah fingers is tarred from all this typing and such...

Mark -
I have decided to update my 7.8 Personal version to the latest 10.5 version on my old XP laptop for eventual use on my new Win 7 laptop. I asssume the best way to do this is to upgrade and update FundManager on my old computer and then migrate to the new. My question is, once I update my old version on the old laptop, do I then have to download a complete 10.5 version (not the upgrade) to install on the new laptop and then follow the transferring Fund Manager to a New Computer instructions found in FAQ's?? If I understand correctly, this will cost the cost of the upgrade only. BTW, if it makes a difference I MAY have already installed this licensed FM 7.8 on a total 3 computers over the years. I do not remember for sure.
Thanks.

Hi 2whiteroses,

Yes, download/install 10.5 onto your old computer. When you get your new computer, just download/install 10.5 onto that as well. There is only 1 download. There isn't a special "upgrade" or "new" download, there is only 1 complete download. It does not matter whether you have an old version installed or not, as long as you have a valid license key, which you will receive when your order your 10.x upgrade online. You only have to buy the "upgrade" license, not a new one. You just have to enter your current license name and serial number in order to be eligible for the upgrade pricing.
Thanks,
Mark
