WinInet error code 12029

Last week upgraded from FM 8.1 to FM 10. I seem to have a AT&T firewall issue. I turned off Windows firewall, and attempted to set up an exception permission for Fund Manager. It is asking for potocal specific ports. How can I find these? I assume it is TCP. I have tried many variations and keep getting WinInet error code 12029. Something appears to have gotten messed up in the firewall in the update. Other programs seem to get through just fine. Also I have a stupid question - how doses the firewall know about the name of the executable. I have put the name Fund Manger in the firewall application name.

Generally it isn't required to go in and specifically tell your firewall these details. When a program first requests access, most firewall programs will ask if it is okay for this application to access the internet. If you say yes, or allow, it then allows it. Often there is an option that gives you the ability to allow it once, or always.

I'm not sure of the specifics of your AT&T firewall. You might need to call up whoever sold you that, and ask them for help on configuring it. Installing Fund Manager makes no changes to your firewall. The only thing installing Fund Manager does is copy files to the folder you choose for installing, and set up some registry settings for shortcuts under the Start menu, and so you can uninstall Fund Manager. It doesn't make any other changes to anything on your system.

I would agree with you that you somehow need to point your firewall to the specific executable and not just the name of the program. The specifics of how to do that vary with different firewall products. By AT&T firewall, do you mean your router? If so, you really should not have to be configuring your router. I would double check you don't have another firewall software product running on your computer.
