D Drive Memory

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby heidiasst » Mon Oct 06, 2025 7:48 am

Good Morning Mark,

Our D Drive Memory is near capacity. This stores the Data Files being created in Fund Manager
and is located on an external hard drive with a 1TB capacity.

I don't want to delete Data Files to free up space, I believe that this would cause historical data issues.

I am thinking that we should install another external hard drive with more space on it and then direct our backups and Data files to the new hard drive.

Does this sound like the right solution?

Help,
Heidi

Hi Heidi,

Yes, that sounds like a good solution to me.
Thanks,
Mark

Once I install the new external hard drive, can you walk me through changing the backup and data files to the new drive?

Hi Heidi,

If you add a new drive, and want to move your data to that location, follow these steps:

1) Open your data from the current location, and then do a "File / File Operations / Set Data Location...". Pick a folder on your new drive. This will change the location of all the opened data, and set this folder as the default for newly created investment files. If you use multiple *.mm4 portfolio files, you'd need to do this for each portfolio file.

2) Use "Options / General Preferences... / Data" and "Browse..." to a folder on your new drive for where you'd like the automatic backups stored.
Thanks,
Mark

Is there a way to confirm that my backups are now in my external hard drive?

Hi heidiasst,

You can go look at the location you specified for backups to go using File Explorer, and make sure you see some *.FMB backup files there. The automatic backups are made when exiting FM.
Thanks,
Mark
