Beta 10.0: Apparent .csv export problem.

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi!

I created an "Investment Transactions" report from the "Reports" menu in FM 10.0 beta. I used File|Export to .csv to export it. I opened the .csv file in OpenOffice.org Calc. Most of the export/import went fine, but...

Column E is headed "Price". It seems not to have any prices. What it holds are the contents of the "Notes". (The transaction type is correctly marked as "Note" in column C.) For other types of transactions, column E is empty. The correct content of the Price field is displayed in the FM report, but seems to have disappeared from the .csv, when displayed in OO Calc.

When I open the .csv in a text editor, the numbers in the Price field are visible for most transactions, but for a Note transaction that field contains the contents of the Note.

Do you know why the Price field won't display properly in OO Calc, since it displays properly in a text editor?

Thanks.
David.

Hello David,

In the Investment Transaction report, "Note" transactions are formatted a little differently than other transactions. On the screen, the notes are center aligned, and take up all the columns starting at "Price", up to and including the last displayed column. In the CSV file the note text is placed in the first column that it starts in on the screen, which is the "Price" column.

The Price field should not be empty for transactions that have a price, like buy, sell, reinvestment. It will be empty for distributed distributions, where there is no price.

I don't know any specifics about OO Calc, but in my tests it appears to read properly into Excel. If you'd like, you can email me your CSV file, and I'll take a look at it in Excel.
Thanks,
Mark
