Trouble creating new portfolio

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby Econdoc » Fri Aug 03, 2018 6:34 pm

I would like to set up two completely separate portfolios: one for myself and one for my wife. I want to be able to generate rebalancing and performance reports for each portfolio, independent of the other.
When I try to add a portfolio for my wife, I am asked to “Select New Portfolio Location”. The New Portfolio location looks like it is somewhere in the Master Portfolio, not an independent portfolio.
How can I accomplish my goal?
I am using FundManager 2016.

Hi Econdoc,

In your sub-portfolio hierarchy at the very top there can only be 1 top level. However, you can create as much hierarchy underneath that as you want. It sounds like you may have this now:

Code: Select all
- Master Portfolio
  - My Acct 1
  - My Acct 2

and you are trying to create a new account for your wife, and track them separately. So, do something like this:

Code: Select all
- Master Portfolio
  - My Accounts
    - My Acct 1
    - My Acct 2
  - Wife Accounts
    - Wife Acct 1
    - Wife Acct 2

This will allow you to run reports separately, or together. For help on setting up and managing your sub-portfolios, see our sub-portfolio tutorial.
Thanks,
Mark
