Problem with back ups

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby fundman247 » Thu Oct 23, 2014 8:46 am

Hi Mark,

Could you please explain the operation of back ups.

I have a custom folder for my back ups. My setting is to back up every day. I installed version 13 some months ago. Some portfolios have 24 versions of back ups while some portfolios have only been backed up once. I also have portfolios that have never been backed up apart from the back ups that I have made manually.

I am using WIN 7 Ultimate and have full read/write permission on my login account.

Regards.

Hi fundman247,

The automatic backup feature operates when you exit Fund Manager. Whatever portfolio file you have open when you exit Fund Manager will be backed up, based on your settings under "Options / General Preferences... / Data". If you're using multiple portfolio files (*.mm4), it must be open at the time you exit Fund Manager for it to have a backup created. It sounds like you're using multiple portfolio files. Is there some reason you don't just use a single portfolio file, and create sub-portfolios in there?
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the information.

The portfolios that have not been backed up would never be open at the time when I close FM. They are opened 1st thing daily to update the prices but then I start to open and close different portfolios applicable to my investments. These investment portfolios would then be the last ones open when I close FM.

This would then explain why these investment portfolios have up to 25 versions in the back up folder.

I will in future make sure to have these un backed up portfolios open when I close FM.

Regards.
