If multiple files or especially file points are being accessed simultaneously there can be a great deal of lag with satelite based communication systems due to latency. Latency is the amount of time it takes a signal to leave your computer and reach it's destination on the Internet. Since the signal from your satelite based system has to travel 49,000 miles just to reach the backbone of the Internet there is significant ping latency. This could be what's happening. T-1, ISDN, DSL and Cable Modems do not suffer from these problems and would be a better method of connection for you.
