: I have FM on both my desktop and my laptop. When I am traveling I want to update the data files on my laptop and when at home, on the desk machine. But to do this, I need to be able to copy the current data file from the current computer to the one I will be using. I have all FM data files in a separate subdirectory and when I copy the directory to the other computer it seems to wreck FM to the point I have to re-install it. What is the proper way to copy the data files?

Hi Rich,
There should be no problem with just copying your investment files (*.dat)
from one machine to another. Some things to make sure of are:

1) You're using the same version on both machines
2) You only need to copy the investment files (*.dat)
3) If using a portfolio, the investment files should be stored in the
same relative path to the portfolios on each machine

Thanks,
Mark
