: : Yes, this could be more automated. Also, there is an easier way
: : to handle spin-offs than re-entering all your transactions at the
: : new rate. Use a return of capital distribution in the parent (for 0.05 *
: : the original LU basis in this case). Then, record a purchase in the
: : child for the same amount. In this case you would then also record
: : the sell of 0.1 shares of AV.

: Because of the multiple purchases of the LU (on different dates), I believe
: I have to record multiple purchases of AV (assigning different purchase
: dates to be able to differentiate long vs. short term cap gains).

: I also need to record the first sell of 0.1 AV because I need this for the
: basis calculations (can't just subtract this from one of the purchases because
: you don't know if you're using FIFO or AVG).

: Don't you agree that this would be the most accurate way to record this
: spin-off?

Hi Dennis,
Yes, I agree this is most accurate for keeping track of your cost basis.
Given the information you showed in your last post would be enough for FM
to create the new investment and adjust your old investment. I also agree
this would be a nice feature to add.

Thanks,
Mark
