Mark, Thanks for the info...It solved the problem! All Data now entered correctly Thanks again, Todd : : Hi, : : I'm having a problem getting my share totals to match with the statement. This seems to be related to the way reinvested distributions are handled. For example, when I enter a dividend for 3/26/00, I enter the date (Which pulls up the historical quote), the div amount...tab over to shares and this calculates the #shares. But when I click ok...the Historical quote is changed and does not reflect the true share price for that day? This compounds when a ST and LT gain are entered for the same date. : : In the end...I end up being over by about 0.004 shares. ie: I actually own 48.166 shares, but the program says I own 48.170. : : What am I doing wrong?? I'm a bit perplexed : : Thanks for any insight, : : Todd S : Hi Todd, : There is some discussion in the online help about how to prevent : rounding errors. I've copied it here: : *************************** : Recording Transactions Without Rounding Errors: : Often there can be small rounding errors on your transaction summary statement, as provided by your fund : company. Improperly recorded, this can lead to small differences between the share balances reported by : Fund Manager and your statements. To prevent rounding errors, record the Value and Shares fields in : Fund Manager as displayed on your fund statement. Then, press the Tab key to move the input focus to the : Price field. Fund Manager will automatically adjust the Price field to be consistent with the Value and : Shares. This method records the Value and Shares as displayed on your statement. If there are rounding : errors on your statement, the Price recorded by Fund Manager will be adjusted to the correct price : (consistent with the Value and Shares). Fund Manager always ensures that Value = Shares * Price. : You can move the input focus around on a dialog box by pressing the Tab key on your keyboard. The : order that the focus moves around on a dialog box is referred to as the "tab order". The transaction dialogs : in Fund Manager have their tab order set to facilitate this recording method. The tab order in transaction : dialogs moves from the Value, to the Shares, and then to the Price controls. : *************************** : The bottom line is you want to record the shares exactly, and let the : price "float". : To fix your share balance, turn up the share digit display to 6 under : "Options/Preferences..." and then use "Edit/All Data..." with the : "Investments (all)" data type selected. Make sure each transaction : is recorded to the correct number of shares. If not, just use the : "Edit" button there to fix it. : Regarding your question on updating the historical price... When you : record a transaction in FM, if there is no price recorded for that : date FM will record a price automatically, based on the price in your : transaction. If there is already a price recorded, it will not change : it. When the dialog box is automatically filling in the historical price : based upon the date you've entered, this price may be interpolated : from other prices, and you may not actually have a price recorded on that : date prior to the transaction being entered. : Thanks, : Mark : -- : Mark Beiley : : Fund Manager for Windows 3.1x/95/98/NT : :
