: : : I'm using default internet quote server, Yahoo. I get the daily prices OK, but I do not get any daily volumn data. Do I need to switch to another quote server or adjust some setting?

: : More percisely, how can I get volumn data for indexes, ala the S&P 500?

: Volume is not available for indices or mutual funds, only stocks.
: For example, see:

: You will notice the "Volume" field says "N/A". An index is not actually
: traded, so there is no such thing as volume...

: Thanks,

Hi Alan,

You can get exchange volume figures from Yahoo as follows:

NASDAQ Volume uses ^TV.O
NYSE Volume uses ^TV.N

You'll have to update them daily as they aren't in the Historical database, at least the last time I checked. Also, the number you get when updating omits the last 3 zeros of the total volume figure.

Hope this helps.

Wyatt
