Entering exchange of shares for a different share class

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby KCarlander » Tue May 20, 2008 10:33 am

Hello,

Is there a way to reflect an exchange of shares (Class 1) for a different share class (Class 2) without distorting monthly performance reporting?
The exchange resulted in owning fewer shares of Class 2 but with the same basis as previously held Class 1 shares.

Thanks,

Kristin

Hi Kristin,

Yes, just record a split transaction, with a ratio of <new_shares> for <old_shares>. You can then change the name/symbol if necessary. This works fine if your whole investment gets converted, but not so well if only some of the shares got converted. In version 9, we'll have 'transfer' transactions, that allow you to transfer part of an investment to a new one, while maintaining your cost basis.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Thank you. This will work. I'm glad I asked.
