Portfolio Performance Includes Transfers As Gains

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby jchladek » Thu May 03, 2012 6:18 am

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I've been unable to locate it anywhere on the forum. When I run a 'portfolio performance' report, the gain calculation is including securities that were transferred into the account. How can I correct this so that the gain being reported is just based on the investment performance? Thanks!

Hi John,

The Gain calculation includes all of your investments in the portfolio. I believe what you may be looking for is the ability to control whether it considers the gain based off the transferred in market value or off the original OOP cost basis. You enter both separately when you record a transfer in. By default, FM uses your original OOP cost basis, but you can change this to market value if you prefer. See:

Options / General Preferences... / Other / Transfer Transaction OOP Calculations Use:

Mark,
Thanks for the quick reply. I have followed your instructions, but do not see "Transfer Transaction OOP Calculations Use:" under the Options/General Preferences/Other tab. The only options I see under that tab are Initial "Data Type" in Data Register, Action When Double Clicking An Investment In Portfolio Editor, Weekend Starts On, Default Accounting Method for New Investments, File Types to Associate With Fund Manager, Daily Portfolio Price(s) Alert, and Prompt Before Pasting Prices/Transactions. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Hi John,

That is the right place. What version of Fund Manager are you using? See "Help / About...". The latest is 11.9, and this feature is in that version.
Thanks,
Mark
