options related price problem

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Please see this image attached. I downloaded this transaction and the ticker was created based on auto download from TDAmeritrade. However the price downloaded was not of the option but of NFLX.

Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong? Image attached.

i think i posted it in the wrong forum. i searched here some more but could not find a reliable way to correct the ticker symbol since that should fix the problem.

here is another image of what the ticker looks like.

but i still cannot get historical prices right. I suppose those are not available.

is this the right way to deal with option prices - I had to go to yahoo website and get the ticker?

thanks.

Hi shalam,

Yes, if you want to retrieve prices from Yahoo for an option, you must go to Yahoo and determine the symbol they use for that option, and then record that as the symbol in your investment's properties in Fund Manager. The "Yahoo (options)" server provides the current option quote. Yahoo doesn't offer historical quotes for options.

The other choice you have for updating prices is to get them from your broker when you retrieve transactions. When you retrieve transactions Fund Manager updates your investment prices as reported by your broker. The transaction retrieve is done by CUSIP, so it is okay to change the symbol for price retrieve from the internet, and still also get price/transaction updates from your broker, since the CUSIP is still as expected by your broker.

I'm surprised that the initial price that came in from your broker was for the underlying stock, and not the option price. If you retrieve transactions now and then check your prices, are the option prices correct? (Prices will still update, even if you don't have any new transactions, just press "Finish" at the Preview stage.)
Thanks,
Mark

I will do this - thanks Mark.

the updating of prices from the broker would be ideal.
in that case i do not have to hit price update separately.

if there is a problem, will come back.
