entering accrued interest when bond is purchased

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby michael » Mon Jun 27, 2011 12:03 pm

Hi Mark,

Recording the purchase of a bond. I entered the accrued interest paid in investment's accrued interest field.

When I go back into that purchase transaction in the investment, the accrued interest field no longer shows.

Any idea why the field disappears when I go back into the transaction? It just has the commission field, and not the accrued interest field next to it.

I do see the accrued int paid as a negative amount under distributions. It's just a little confusing.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Agreed, this is confusing... When you enter a new buy of a bond, you have the opportunity to enter the purchase details, including the accrued interest you paid. However, this is actually recorded as 2 separate transactions, the purchase, plus a negative distribution for the accrued interest. If you later want to edit this transaction, you have to edit the accrued interest payment separately from the bond purchase.
Thanks,
Mark
