Capital Gains Report Missing some Sales

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby attunement » Thu Oct 14, 2010 9:53 am

When I do a capital gains report, Fund Manager is overlooking a significant number of sales. When I go to the actual ticker of a missed sale and look at the purchases and redemptions, all the necessary information is there, the purchases, the date, the purchase price, the sale price, the number of shares bought and sold. But this info is not being included in the report, causing my gains to be under reported.

I'm looking for the gains for 2010. But even when I set the report preference to show all gains over the lifetime of the account, this same handful of tickers are still not showing up in the report or in the capital gains total amount. I toggled the hide and unhide investments options to see if this would wake things up but that had no effect.

Hi attunement,

Are these missing sell transactions from investments marked as "Tax-free", or as "Cash" type investments? The hidden attribute doesn't apply to the Capital Gains report, but there are options to exclude Tax-Free and Cash type investments from the Capital Gains reports.

Try going to "Options / Report Preferences... / Capital Gains", and turn off the 3 options to exclude tax-free, cash, and default cash investments.

You can also check your investments under "Investment Properties..." to see if they are marked as tax-free or a cash type investment.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Turning off the "Exclude Cash Type Investments" brought everything in. So that fixed the problem!

I've been clicking around trying to find out where this is set. I've just been downloading the info and haven't set anything myself. The default seems to be Large Cap Stock 100%, when I click on the ticker and select Properties.

I don't even find Cash listed as a type of investment where I'm looking (unless Money Market counts as that.)

Hi attunement,

Glad that fixed it. If you right mouse click on an investment, and choose "Properties...", and then look on the "General" tab, you will see a drop-down for "Type". If this is set to "Cash", then it will be affected by this option. This is the "Investment Type". The "Large Cap Stock" is a default "Asset Type", which you can set under the "Asset Type" tab in this same dialog.
Thanks,
Mark

Everything's fixed now and working splendidly.

Many thanks for your help.
