Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

sorry for the newbie questions but.
My portfolio performance report is showing rows where the investment was zero value through the period and I would like to suppress that.
The report shows multiple rows for the same investment (presumably representing different sub-portfolios). Is there a way to combine them?

Hi schwarcz,
Please feel free to ask as many questions as necessary.
To omit investments with zero shares from a report you can either hide the investment, or use the option to not display zero shared investments in reports. For details on this, please read:
http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/faq_hide_sold.php
If you are listing by "Investment", you will get a line item for each investment. So, if you have 2 investments with the same symbol, you will get 2 line items. If you want to combine all investments with the same symbol onto a single line, list by "Symbol" instead. The option of what to list by is available in the Report Settings dialog.

Thanks for the reply.
In the portfolio performance report I have selected "do No Display Investment with Zeo Share Balance Over Entire Report Date Range".
However, I still have rows that show both a zero beginning and end value displayed.
I have selected list by symbol rather than list by investment and I still have multiple rows for a given holding.
There must be something else for me to do that I haven't spotted.

Hi schwarcz,
Do you have "View / Hidden Investments/Portfolios" turned off?
Do you have sub-total by sub-portfolio turned on in this report? If so, are the multiple listings in different sub-portfolios? If they are in the same sub-portfolio, or you have sub-totals turned off, make sure you have the exact same symbol recorded in each of these different investments.

Ah ha. I did not have View / Hidden Investments/Portfolios" turned off.
This has fixed the rows for empty holdings.
With regard to the multiple rows for a a holding, it turns out if I subtotal by asset type (which is what I have been doing all along) it switches to list by investment and does not let me list by symbol. Why is this?

Hi schwarcz.
Yes, when you sub-total by anything other than sub-portfolio, you can only list by investment. That is just a limitation of the features in Fund Manager. It doesn't support every possible combination of sub-totals and listing.

That is pretty disappointing. I monitor performance by asset class.

You can still monitor by asset class, you just can't list by symbol at the same time. You can either sub-total by asset type and list by investment, or you could turn off sub-totals, and list by asset type.

Right, but if I subtotal by asset type then I am going to getting a separate row for each investment (in a different sub-portfolio) of the same equity. It looks like there is no way around that?

Correct, if you want to sub-total by asset type, you must list by investment.
