Interactive Brokers OFX import unique identifier

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby hub » Sun Oct 11, 2009 4:33 pm

I have an IB account. I can download OFX statements for the last two years or so, but I also would like to import histories prior to that. I can export a QIF file from Quicken, where I have kept all transaction history. However, I don't want to end up with multiple investments for the same stock, e.g., MSFT, in a single sub-portfolio. My hope is that if after I import the older histories from QIF, maybe I can set the CUSIP for each securities, and then do the OFX import and maybe FM will match the investments automatically. Is there a unique identifier that FM looks for when importing OFX transaction entries?

I can do a test run of course, but I heard FM's excellent support. Maybe I will get my answers quicker here.

Thanks!

Hi hub,

You are right on track. When importing from OFX, existing investments are found based on the CUSIP. You could import all your historical data from QIF, and then switch to OFX going forward. If you don't know the CUSIP of one of your investments (or any of them), you can import your OFX file into a new sub-portfolio, figure out all the CUSIPs, and then just close that sub-portfolio, along with all the temporary investments that were just imported.
Thanks,
Mark
