how to get prices from yahoo/bloomberg/... generally?

hello.
i am a student from austria in an IT/business college. this year i will write my degree dissertation about portfolio analysis. i have to write a program which performs an analysis on a given portfolio.
therefore, i need the historical prices of the stocks in the portfolio. can you please give me general information how i can access the download interface from yahoo, bloomberg (just to mention the most famous ones), ...? is there any platform which offers the market values for free?

You can read about how to use the price retrieve feature in Fund Manager here:

If you need the pricing data for another application you can make use of the "prices.csv" data file Fund Manager leaves behind after any price retrieve. This file will be in your user's "Application Data\Fund Manager" folder.

i have read the documentation the price retrieve feature in Fund Manager and i also know that the prices.csv file exists.

however, i want to know if you could help me how to write an own software to retrieve the data. i DO NOT want to create a competitor program for Fund Manager, it is just for my studies and will never be published. i would highly appreciate your help for my studies.
in my program the data should automatically (not via csv-file) be loaded and then the portfolio analysis after markowitz should be performed.
