Dividend Frequency and Yield Reporting

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby clay c » Wed Dec 09, 2009 2:38 pm

How do you change the dividend frequency for an individual stock/mutual fund so that it reports the correct yield? I have a mutual fund that distributes once a year, but the yield reported (expected div yld (end)) in my custom report is taking the single distribution and multiplying it by 4 (it is assuming that the fund is distributing this amount quarterly). I could change dividend rate to show 1/4th of the amount, and it would correct this, but the distribution was reinvested.
In other words, is there a way that I can change the distribution frequency for each security, such as 1yr, 6mos or 3 mos? Thanks,
clay c

Hi clay c,

This "expected dividend yield" is defined as:

Code: Select all
Annualized dividend yield expected to be earned in the future.  Calculation is based on the ending share price, the last received dividend amount, and frequency of prior dividends.  Possible frequencies are 1 year, semi-annually, quarterly, or monthly.  Defaults to quarterly if only a single dividend is recorded.  The value is a percentage.

So, since you only have 1 dividend recorded, it is assuming those are paid quarterly. To change this, you can record a $0 distribution for 1 year before your last distribution, so FM knows the frequency.
Thanks,
Mark
