Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby david » Tue Nov 03, 2015 3:35 pm

Hi Mark
bought and sold some stocks today but it does not update, the sold issues are still as active and the new ones do not show.
Is there a time lag I need to wait?
thanks
David

Hi david,

Glad you solved it. Yes, it is not uncommon for there to be a delay in your transactions to be available for the transaction retrieve feature. The amount of delay is up to the broker, and varies by broker.
Thanks,
Mark

I upgraded to the latest version today (11/30) then did my monthly updates. The transaction came through and updated the share quantity however none of the prices for any of the stocks (about 20) are coming through. Any clues?

Hi dkuntzel,

How are you verifying none of your prices were updated? If you retrieve transactions, the closing prices should also be updated for your investments from your broker. Only investments in the retrieved account are updated. If you want to retrieve prices from our quote servers, you can use "Edit / Internet Retrieve / Prices" also.

To view your closing prices, look in the Data Register (Edit / All Data...) and set the "Data Type" to "Prices".
Thanks,
Mark

Mark

I have 2 computers on my desk; 1 mac 1 dell. I got the prices by comparing my fidelity actuals on my mac to what FM shows in the account that had the trans. Crude as it may seem this is how I have always done it. I had tried to pull the data from yahoo earlier and it didn't work either. I just tried it again and this time it worked though I got several pop ups indicating servers couldn't be found. The only reason I have my dell is to run FM. I have some reservations about using yahoo for data as I am paranoid about getting virus's on my dell. This has always been a problem for me so I use the mac for everything else.

In any case after I did the yahoo data pull the second time and the values check good against what fidelity has. But something changed as when I get the transaction in the past that also pulled prices from fidelity as well. As I said I verified account total by looking real time at the fidelity account on my mac.

Hi dkuntzel,

I'm not sure what happened, but prices should still be updated from your broker when you retrieve transactions. They may not be today's prices, depending on when you retrieve, and your broker. FM just updates the prices for whatever date is provided by the broker. I would suggest next time taking a look at the prices for your investments in the Data Register under the data type of "Prices" before doing a transaction retrieve, and then look again right afterwards. If a price wasn't updated for today or the prior business day, then we can take a look at the log file, and see what was provided, and figure out why it isn't updating. I suspect though, it may just be a day behind or something because of the timing. You may have retrieved before they updated the current prices on their OFX server.
Thanks,
Mark
