Correcting History For a Stock That No Longer Exists

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby allwrappedup » Sat Feb 02, 2013 12:25 pm

I created an investment with the wrong stock symbol (SXC should have been SXCI). Although this is easily corrected through properties, it does not correct history.

Unfortunately SXCI merged with another Stock and then it changed its name. The problem is my cost basis and performance for the initial part of the investment is wrong because I had the wrong symbol and can no longer update historical prices.

I have tried several historical servers to see if they might truly provide history with no success (Google Historical returns values but it looks like they are for SXC). Is there any way to correct this?

Thanks!

Hi allwrappedup,

I just looked on Yahoo, and they report that the symbol SXCI has changed to CTRX. They offer historical prices for CTRX. If those look like they are for the correct security, just change the symbol to CTRX and then retrieve historical pricing from Yahoo (Historical). When you retrieve historical prices, it overwrites any current pricing data you have recorded. Closing prices do not affect your transaction prices, which are separate. The transaction prices will determine your cost basis. Closing prices do affect your market value, and performance figures though.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark,

I didn't think I could do this since I still have CTRX, but it let me change it and update. Once I accounted for the stock split, it looks like the bias is gone.
