Error updating transaction retrieve module 146 to 149

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby gbenn » Thu Sep 22, 2011 1:38 pm

Running version 11.3 professional with quote module 424 and transaction module 146. Attempted to update transaction retrieve module from 146 to 149. FM attempted to download inteng11x.dll and came back with message "bad crc check for inteng11x.dll download". I tried manually downloading this module which seemed to work OK, but I am now unable to retrieve any prices. The update status screen displays (comm. disconnected, request 0, current none, retrieve 0). Any thoughts?

Thx

Hi Graham,

If you select "Help / Fund Manager on the Web / Check for Updates..." does the program report you have the latest price and transaction module?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Graham,

It looks like your transaction module hasn't been updated. If you press OK to that status dialog it should prompt you to download the update. Just say "Yes" to that, and let Fund Manager try again to download the update for you. The CRC error indicates that somehow the download wasn't completed properly, but you can just try it again.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I checked my Internet settings and it appears my default sever info was reset to blanks after I manually downloaded the inteng11x.dll. After I entered my default info I was able to retrieve prices again. I then tried to update my transaction module and I got the same bad crc error during the download process and I had to restore my inteng11x.dll again. Any thoughts on what's happening with this transaction module update process, it keeps failing?

Do I need to run FM as admin to do the updates?

Thx

Hi Graham,

The transaction module update is updating tranretr.dll. The inteng11x.dll file you mentioned is for your price module. Is your inteng11x.dll file going away after you attempt to update the transaction module? Those 2 should be independent.

You do not have to run Fund Manager as an admin to do the update, but when the update happens you do have to allow it to start the update process with admin permissions. Does your user that you are logged in with have admin permissions?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

When the download of the transaction module fails, the inteng11x.dll disappears from my fund manager directory and I have to restore it. I am using windows 7 and the user account does not have admin permissions. I am usually prompted for the admin password whenever an application requires admin access.

Hi Graham,

I suspect the user not having admin rights may be related to the problem. Have you ever updated a price or transaction module on this computer with that user before? Try running FM as a user that does have admin rights. You don't have to start FM as an administrator, but the user does need to be an admin, so that it can write into your Program Files folder and store the updated DLL.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I believe this is the first time I have tried to update the modules since the initial install on this PC running windows 7. I tried running FM as admin and the update worked OK (I prefer running as a standard user to run all my applications for security reasons). I also noticed FM started as an unlicensed evaluation copy when I ran it as admin. After the module update I restarted FM as I normally do (non admin) and things seem to look OK (including my valid license info). Does it make sense that my license information seems to be lost when running FM as admin?

Thx

Hi Graham,

If your admin user is a different user than you normally use, then yes this would make sense. All your preferences and license information is stored on a per-user basis.
Thanks,
Mark
