Internet Retrieve skips investment

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby deastes » Wed Aug 10, 2011 10:38 am

Mark,

I added a new investment (Vanguard Fund) to a portfolio. My problem is the daily NAV for this investment isn't downloaded along with other investments in the portfolio on Internet price retrieve.

According to Investment Properties in the Portfolio Editor the data I entered for the new investment seem correct, including Internet Retrieve box being checked. I entered the price manually on the date of purchase along with the value and number of shares.

Hi Dan,

Which quote server (and historical quote server) are you using?

Also, make sure that you have the correct symbol for the fund you're tying to download. I know this sounds basic, but sometimes is the littlest things that trip us up.

Mark,

I had been setup on Bloomberg and Bloomberg Historical the past few weeks though I sometimes use Yahoo. I tried Yahoo just now and it updated the investment correctly.

Thanks,
Dan

Mark,

I'm still observing erratic data retrieve for this single investment. It's Vanguard Balanced Index Fund Investor Shares (VBINX) and, yes, I do have the correct symbol entered and retrieve box checked. The automatic retrieval actually happens some days for this investment, but most days this investment (alone) is skipped. Yesterday, I tried Yahoo, Bloomberg, and MSN manually. None would retrieve data for this investment.

Any suggestions?

Hi Dan,

I just did a test retrieve of VBINX using the current quote module (424) and the "Yahoo" quote server. It updated correctly.

1) What quote module are you using?
2) If you look at the "Investment Properties... / Internet Retrieve" tab for this investment, make sure you have the server set to "Default Quote Server" and it is set to retrieve. Go set your global default server under "Options / Internet Settings..." to "Yahoo". Now, right mouse click on that investment, and choose "Retrieve Selected Price". Open up the Data Register, and set the 'Data Type' to "prices". Do you have a price recorded for the most recent quote for this fund? If you do it in the middle of the day, you'll be getting yesterday's closing price.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

1) What quote module are you using?
424.

2) If you look at the "Investment Properties... / Internet Retrieve" tab for this investment, make sure you have the server set to "Default Quote Server" and it is set to retrieve.
Check.

Go set your global default server under "Options / Internet Settings..." to "Yahoo".
Check.

Now, right mouse click on that investment, and choose "Retrieve Selected Price".
Get FM Error MSG #1: "Could not update any investments," followed by FM Error MSG#2: "One or more servers were unable to retrieve any prices."

Open up the Data Register, and set the 'Data Type' to "prices". Do you have a price recorded for the most recent quote for this fund?
No. Last price datum is day before yesterday, consistent with above results.

Hi Dan,

Maybe you have a space character before or after the recorded symbol? I just test retrieved it a couple more times from here, and it is still working okay here.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
Maybe you have a space character before or after the recorded symbol?
That appears to be the problem--space character after the symbol. Seems to be retrieving properly now on command. Just for the record, Yahoo did work on at least one occasion as noted above.

I monitor it for the next few days to verify. Thanks.
