Changing Transaction Type

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby elliots » Wed Apr 06, 2011 8:59 am

Mark,

When editing a transaction is there a way to change the transaction type? For example, I want to change TransferOut to Sell. It appears that the only way is to delete one and add the other. If there isn't a way, please put it on my wish list. While I understand that different transaction types require different data, a new screen with whatever existing data applies filled in with highlighted fields for empty required data would be easier than delete/add.

(I know it doesn't happen all that often, but it's psychologically painful for me to have to re-enter something that was already mostly there. I'll spend 20 minutes figuring out how to get something from one program into another before I'll spend 5 minutes re-entering data.)

Hi Elliot,

You are correct, you need to delete/add when switching between major different transaction types, like Transfer to Buy. I can appreciate this request, it would make life easier to be able to switch these more easily.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Thanks. New problem. In editing transactions, I've somehow deleted a default cash account in a subportfolio. How do I get it back?

I've gone to FILE/OPEN INVESTMENTS but I've got 45 investments starting with CASH. The area to the right is a preview pane, but when I click on any of the investments I get "No Preview Available." How do I find the right cash account -- the date modified field doesn't seem to help.

I'm working in the Beta.

Hi Elliot,

Here's a trick:

1) Edit the properties of an investment, and go to the "Password" tab. Assign a password, and choose "Apply to All Open Investments".

2) Issue "File / Save Investments".

3) Now, go do the "File / Open Investment(s)..." and sort by date modified. The investment that was not previously open will have an older modified date. All the open ones were just saved in step #2.

4) If desired, un-do the password assignment from step #1.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Nice trick. I tried it and didn't immediately find what I wanted. Then I thought about it and realized the investment I was looking for was hidden. This generated another issue which I'll post in a new thread.

Thanks,

Elliot
