Importing generic files

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby fjpperez » Tue Dec 13, 2011 3:18 pm

Hello. I'm fairly new with FM and I've had some trouble with some latin american quotes from Bloomberg since it retrieves prices from with a few days of delays. Anyway, I've been trying to import prices using the generic files but with no luck so far. I have all the info in Excel and when creating a .csv file it looks like this:

ECOPETL:CB,4/01/10,10563064885.00,2495.00,2515.00,2505.24,2480.00
ECOPETL:CB,5/01/10,5595115515.00,2465.00,2495.00,2472.84,2460.00
ECOPETL:CB,6/01/10,4746893340.00,2460.00,2470.00,2459.26,2455.00
ECOPETL:CB,7/01/10,6918774180.00,2440.00,2460.00,2445.07,2440.00
ECOPETL:CB,8/01/10,9328961860.00,2470.00,2475.00,2453.50,2435.00
and so on.

I then put in format:
"SYMB","DD/MM/YY",VV,NAV,HH,OO,LL !REM EXCEL

but it says that the specified format doesn't match any line of the file.

I want to know what is it that I'm doing wrong.

Thabks

Hi Francisco,

You don't have double quotes in your data, so you don't want them in your format string. Instead, for that data, use a format string like this:

SYMB,DD/MM/YY,VV,HH,OO,LL

Also, there is no space after the LL, since there is no space in your data after the low price.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, thanks for your quick response.

I changed the input format to the one specified by you adding the NAV to:

SYMB,DD/MM/YY,VV,NAV,HH,OO,LL

but FM still tells me the specified input format didn't match any line in the file. What else can I do?

Thanks

Francisco

Hi Mark... In another note, I'm trying to import prices for a liquidity fund and the info I have in the csv file is:

FINTERES,12/12/11,12905.99
FINTERES,11/12/11,12904.51
FINTERES,10/12/11,12902.95
FINTERES,9/12/11,12901.2
FINTERES,8/12/11,12899.35
FINTERES,7/12/11,12897.37
FINTERES,6/12/11,12895.48

and so on...
I'm writing the input format as:
SYMB,DD/MM/YY,NAV

The software also tells me the input format didn't match any line in this other file.

What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks

Hi Francisco,

Both of those look correct to me. Are you certain about the file format? Can you attach a small sample file you've tried to import and I'll see if I can't import it with those settings. When you reply to this post, there is an "Upload attachment" tab down below where you can select a file to attach.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Francisco,

Sorry about that. I've changed the board permissions to allow either .CSV or .TXT files to be attached. Please give it another try, and let me know if you have any other problems.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Francisco,

Thanks. The problem is your .csv file has Mac style line endings. Each line is terminated with a carriage return character only. Fund Manager requires a PC or Unix style line ender that is terminated with a line feed character. I've changed your sample file to have PC style line enders, and have posted it here. You can download it, and test importing it.
