Hi,
With Bloomerg, for all the mutual funds, I've always downloaded prices for only the last five years. It there a way to break this limitation and retrieve prices beyond this period ?
Thanks,
Djoby.

Hi Djoby,
If you switch to Yahoo (Historical) you can get pricing data back much further. You can get it back as far as Yahoo has available.
Mark,
Thanks for your prompt reply. With Yahoo, I've never succeeded to download prices correctly. For example, the fund Templeton Asian Growth (on Bloomberg : http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/quote?ticker=TEMAAAE:LX), how can I retrieve it on Yahoo ? On page http://finance.yahoo.com/, if I enter templeton asian in the "Get Quotes" field, results are poor and NAV don't match. Could you help me, for this fund ? Thank you Djoby
Hi Djoby,
Yes, I don't see that quote on Yahoo either under that name. I looked on Franklin Templeton's web site, and for that fund they do not list a symbol. Other funds of theirs do have a symbol, and are available on Yahoo, like Templeton World Fund with a symbol of TEMWX. I'm not sure what is different about this fund.
Hi Mark,
Thanks for your help. I try to understand what i do wrong with Yahoo. It seems many FM users use it to retrieve prices, but for me it just doesn't work. I'm happy with Bloomberg anyway, except concerning the 5 years limitation. I took the Templeton Asian Growth example because it's a very common fund, at least in France. Another widely adopted fund is "Carmignac Investissement" (CARINVT:FP on Bloomberg). I fund it on Yahoo (http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=FR0010148981.PA&ql=0), but the link "Historical Prices" leads to the message "Historical quote data is unavailable for the specified date range". Does this mean download of historical prices won't work ? Indeed I've tried with the symbol FR0010148981.PA and it doesn't. I've tried with other well known mutual funds, and it's not glorious neither. So I wonder if i do something wrong or if Yahoo is really not suitable for downloading historical prices of mutual funds. Does anyone use Yahoo with success for this investment type ? Djoby.
Hi Djoby,
Correct, if you can't see historical pricing on Yahoo's website, then FM won't be able to retrieve it either. I think Yahoo may be better for more US centric mutual funds. I do believe many people use it for retrieving mutual fund pricing.
