IRA Contributions

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby brookwood » Fri Nov 27, 2009 11:53 am

How would you recommend keeping track of IRA contributions. Right now they are just showing of as purchases of "Cash" so they are not readily identified except in memo field. They only way I can think to do it is to use one of the user defined fields under distributions and then move all the contributions from purchse to, in effect, separately identified distribution. Can you think of better or easier method?

Hi brookwood,

Are these contributions going into your cash account? If so, a purchase into the cash account would be the appropriate transaction. If you want to see a listing of your contributions, run an "Investment Transaction" report, and under "Filter..." turn on:

Include Only Portfolio External Transactions (Contributions/Withdrawals)

I would not record contributions as any sort of distribution, as that mis-represents what really is happening, and will affect your return figures.
Thanks,
Mark
