Importing Money Market trasactions

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Mark:
As I stated previously, I'm converting over from MS Money. I'm importing transactions in segments to insure I understand how FM handles the data. I originally set up an account without linking a default cash account and imported the stock positions. The positions and cost basis are in balance. I now want to set up the MM/cash account side and import the cash transactions. There are 2 types of transactions -1) buying/selling of securities and 2) deposits and checks. I'd like to have all transactions but since the stock positions are in balance I'm mainly concerned with the deposit and check transactions. I was thinking of importing through a QIF file and then turning on the auto link function once the transactions are in and balanced. Will this work? Is there a better way? Can you give me steps if it is not just a simple import?
Thanks

Hi jnewton,

Is this the same QIF file you originally used?

Fund Manager only automatically records corresponding entries into your default cash account if you assign the cash account at the time of the import, or have it already assigned. If you assign it afterwards, it will not go back and retroactively add corresponding cash transactions.

Here are some thoughts:

1) If you have a QIF account from Money with these cash transactions, import it into a new sub-portfolio. You could then just move this one money market investment into your already set up sub-portfolio, and close the one you just imported.

2) Export your already set up account in Fund Manager to a QIF file, and then use that to import back into a new sub-portfolio, using the same technique in #1 above. Make sure to turn on the option to "Automatically Record Corresponding Entry in Default Cash Account" during the import.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for reply
No it is not the same QIF File as previously imported. I imported the securities account and now I want to import the cash account. So essentially I've established the securities side of the transaction, and am now importing the cash side. I'm assuminng that because the default link is not turned on, it will ony show the cash side. Once the transactions are imported, I'll just do a transfer in/out to bring the balance into line and then turn the default link on.

Sounds like a good plan...
