Track Investment Performance against Acq. Market Pric

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

The software is really amazing! Congrats!

One issue though:

I have a couple of Portfolios with investments of my sons that live in Spain where the "traspaso" operation allows you to defer capital gains tax when you "pass" an investment in one fund to another fund.

FM manages these quite well with the "Transfer Between".

But the problem I could not resolve is to be able to track the real performance of the new investment since all report fields take OOP values or Report Begin Value.

What I would like is to be able to obtain Gain and average purchase price against real average market acquisition value, or have the real average purchase value (taking market price instead of OOP).

Something like an invested at market price so you can know the real gain: End Value - Beg Value - Invested at market price.

Or the total average market purchase price of the current position.

I normally track investment performance with custom reports.

I have been able to resolve many things with custom fields but these I cannot crack.....

Hi remoreno,

Thanks for the nice comments. It sounds like you might like to use the option:

Options / General Preferences... / Other / Transfer Transactions OOP Calculations Use:

You can set this to either "Original OOP" or "Market Value", both of which you can control on the Transfer In dialog box.
Thanks,
Mark

Thank you very much Mark for your prompt response.

Yor suggestion did work as I needed, but:

With that parameter turned to Market Value when I now record a "transfer between", the OOP value in the "Transfer In" leg does not make any sense:

Transferring Out a Market Value of 25000 with an OOP of 17000 and identical tax basis, the "transfer in" leg shows MV 25000 OOP Cost 143.32 Tax Basis 17000.

Any idea why would that be so?

I am manually correcting the OOP Cost to the MV, though it wouldn't have an impact with the parameter turned to Market Value...

What am I missing?

Hi remoreno,

Thanks for pointing out this problem. I see the issue as well when this option is set to "Market Value". We'll have this fixed for the next release. In this case the OOP Cost Value should be the same as the Market Value in the created Transfer In transaction(s).
Thanks,
Mark
