N.A. in "Bought" field, Capital Gains Report

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby CGB » Wed Nov 28, 2012 7:52 pm

I purchased shares then sold them a few days later but the Capital Gains only shows the sale and lists N.A. for everything else. The purchases (two of them) are listed in "All Transactions.
Other purchases and sales are showing properly. Any thoughts?

I also wondered why there are green circles around some of the red dots on graphs for purchases?

Thank you.

Hi Clarke,

You are using the "Specified Lot'" accounting method, but haven't specified the lots.

If you don't want to use Specify Lots, choose a different accounting method, like FIFO or AVG. You specify the accounting method in the report settings. The default choice is to use the accounting method assigned to each investment, which you set under "Investment Properties... / Other / Accounting Method".

If you do want to use Specify Lots, choose "Investment Data / Specify Lots..." and fully specify which lots you sold for each sell transaction.

The green circles are "Un-Specified Lot" markers. When using the Specify Lots accounting method, these are shares still available to sell.
Thanks,
Mark

Thank you. I specified the lots and then the purchase showed up in the capital gains report.

FYI. I do not have the green circles around recently purchased shares that have the select specific shares attribute in the 'other' tab for investments that have older (i.e., 10 yrs ago) transactions that might have been set FIFO.

Hi CGB,

Glad your report is fixed. For the specified lot markers, those will only show up if your investment has been fully specified. It does not matter what accounting method property is assigned to the investment. If you want those green un-specified lot markers you must go to the "Specify Lots" dialog for that investment and specify all your redemptions against some corresponding purchase. Once all the redemptions are fully specified, your un-specified lot markers will appear again.
Thanks,
Mark
