Executive Summary - Index Performance Summary

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby herbiehusker » Wed Jul 06, 2011 10:45 am

The index performance appears to all be price based indexes as opposed to including dividends. I'm assuming that the portfolio performance I'm looking at for Portfolio Performance Summary is including dividends so I just need to make it comparable and consistent with the index performance clients hear and read about (which typically includes dividends in the calculation). How do I include dividends in my indexes?

Hi herbiehusker,

You can create an index investment to track an index that includes dividends. For example, the "S&P 500 Total Return" investment includes the performance of the S&P plus all paid dividends. You can retrieve this from Bloomberg, using the symbol:

SPXT:IND
Thanks,
Mark
