Contributions vs. Withdrawals.

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby aviator » Sun Apr 24, 2011 6:16 am

Hi Mark,

I was looking at my contributions vs. withdrawals for Q1 2011. My numbers are "off" by a small amount which, I believe, might have to do with a closed investment. (Yet another reason to heed your advice to hide an investment instead of closing it.)

My question is can I somehow manually adjust either the contributions or withdrawals to make them balance?

Once an investment is closed, is it closed forever? Is there a way to reopen it? I'm not quite sure of the name of the offending investment, is there a list of closed investments?

Thanks.

Hi aviator,

One useful tip is to use an "Investment Transaction" report, and turn on the filter "Include Only Portfolio External Transactions (Contributions/Withdrawals)". This way, you can see all the external transactions.

You cannot directly adjust contributions/withdrawals, you must edit the corresponding transaction(s). The contributions/withdrawals are calculated from your recorded transactions. Any transaction that doesn't have a corresponding offsetting transaction is considered external. For details, see:

If you want to re-open a closed investment you can definitely do this. Use "File / Open Investment(s)...". You do have to figure out the filename, which can be slightly tricky sometimes. For a tip on figuring out what investments aren't already open, see my post here:

Thanks,
