Reports by Symbol

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby paul3nt » Sat Apr 02, 2011 12:38 pm

Can I order investments in any report by symbol rather than by name or by custom order. It is a big pain to manually custom order investments by Symbols in a long report.

Also can I simply eliminate the formal name in reports and replace it with the corresponding Symbol ? Fixed Income and ETF's have long complicated names that interfere with the readability of reports. The formal names are not helpful and I and I believe most investors think of investments in terms of Symbols not formal names.

paul3nt,

I'm sure Mark can give a more complete answer. But, give this a try:

On the Tool Bar, click Options.
On the Display Tab under Investment Description, click on Symbol.

While viewing a report:

On the Tool Bar, click Sort.
Now click on Symbol.

I hope this helps.

Hi Paul,

I don't have much to add over what Ernest said, other than you can choose how the investment is labeled, as Ernest points out. See "Options / General Preferences... / Display / Investment Description". Once you've chosen "Symbol" instead of the default "Name", you can sort your report by going to "Sort / Investment", and it will sort by symbol since that is how you're investments are being displayed.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark & Ernest,

Thanks for your help. Eliminated the formal names in reports and replaced them by :
> Report Preferences > Investment Transactions > Investment Descrip >
Symbol.

A 4th-level menu address - - - pretty deep ! Then sort gives all the reports the look I want. This was a valuable exercise as I discovered a long neglected bond that needed a CUSIP symbol.
