Portfolio performance report

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby Harsh » Wed Mar 03, 2010 8:37 pm

A new user to fund manager. I am facing a few issues in the portfolio performance report.

1. When I run this report I see a huge gain in my default cash account which puts the entire report redundant. I have input data from September 09 and have had two cash transfer into my brokerage from my bank a/c. I have recorded both these transfers as Transfer in.

2. I see some stocks which I have sold appear in the report. Is it because I have not hidden these stocks in sub-portfolio. If so, would this imply that I have to hide each investment I have sold for it not to appear on reports.

These are major two issues that I am facing. I have a few other questions on other reports which I will post later.

Thanks
Harsh

Hi Harsh,

1) The Gain and %Gain in the Portfolio Performance report are based on your Out Of Pocket (OOP) gain/loss. When you record a transfer in, you enter in the OOP cost. So, check your transfer in transactions, and make sure they weren't recorded at a cost of $0, as that would inflate your OOP gain. You can edit a transfer in the Data Register and select the "Transfer In" data type. Select your transfer, and press "Edit...".

2) By default, if you own a stock at any time within the report date range, it will be shown on the report. You can change this to hide everything except what you own on the ending date only. A third method is to mark an investment as "hidden". See these commands:

(From within any report window)
"Options / Report Preferences... / General / Do Not Display Investments With Zero Share Balance"

(Right mouse click on any investment)
"Investment Properties... / Other / Hidden"

"View / Hidden Investments/Portfolios" - When this option is on, everything is displayed, no matter what. If this option is off, hidden or zero share investments are hidden according to your other settings.
Thanks,
Mark
