Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Hi Mark,

Are transfers in from another brokerage firm counted as contributions on the executive summary?

Thanks,

Hi astraseske,

Yes, if they are recorded as "Transfer In" transactions, these are always considered external to the portfolio, and would be considered contributions in this report. For details on what is "external", see this online help topic:

Hi Costas,

The "Contributions" and "Withdrawals" are relative to the line item being reported on. So, for a stock that you buy, that is a contribution to that stock. If you used cash from the same account to pay for that stock purchase, it will be a withdrawal from cash. In this case, at the sub-portfolio level it will be neither a contribution nor a withdrawal.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark

Thank you for responding

(1)Your write ....."In this case, at the sub-portfolio level it will be neither a contribution nor a withdrawal".... I do not follow .. does that mean that share purchases will still be correctly displayed as Contributions and there is no other way to display them...? please bear with me and elaborate. Please note that I have assigned a default cash account at a subportfolio where the transactions in question are posted..

(2) A more serious problem is that I noticed that I cannot make the Cash default account display more than 7 redemptions when redemptions are posted automatically via my posting the individual Investment purchases ...is this a bug?

Thx
Costas

Hi Costas,

1) If you buy a stock with money from your default cash account, the stock line will show a "contribution", the cash line will show a "withdrawal", and the portfolio line won't show anything. This is because these figures are relative to the line being reported on, so for the stock, you made a contribution. You withdrew cash. At the portfolio level, you didn't add or remove anything, you just moved it from one investment to another, so there were no external contributions/withdrawals at the portfolio level.

2) You can have an unlimited number of default cash account entries. Is there a problem you can reproduce? Do you maybe need to scroll the Data Register, or check how you are sorting your transactions?
Thanks,
Mark
